RtNP#27 Captain's log

I'm back to running again, after almost 6 months. At least I hope to be back. My achilles injury isn't all healed but I thought I'd give it a try to see what happens. No running for such a long time have made not only my fitness but also my mood suffer. Never ever had I thought that the healing process would be so slow. I sure hope that my comeback will be quicker even if I know I have to take it easy.

In this episode ..
..you can hear me run/walk at a 1/1 ratio, but don't pay too much attention to the time signals. The audio have been edited so they are not accurate.

RtNP#25 Walking the Narrow Path

Apologies for my absence but beeing injured, I just wasn't in the best mood to produce something. Now I'm slowly getting back to excercising again. My spirit is also returning. You might not agree on that after listening to this but then you should have heard me a month ago. This episode contains a bit of whining even if I tried to keep it mostly to facts, Ok go ahead and listen then but don't say I didn't warn you.

In this episode ..
..you can hear me talk about my injury and how I'm trying to recover. At the end I manage to share a few more positive things. (May I suggest the fast forward button...)

RtNP#24 Some are eating themselves up

On Midsummers eve I did one of my best runs so far this summer. Perfect weather and quite good running. If it hadn't been so windy the recording might have been better but then I would probably have been boiled so the wind wasn't all bad.

In this episode ..
..you can hear me talk about the best running shoes I ever had, (they turned out really good after breaking them in). I'm also telling you a bit about the charity in Ethiopia.

Slightly injured

Earlier today I was working a bit on the house, putting in boards on a floor. As I was kneeling down on the floor hitting the next board with a hammer to get it in place, I missed with the hammer and accidently hit myself on the right knee. A stupid thing to do.
It was quite painful but before I even felt the pain, the first thought that flew through my mind was:

"No! I have to go running later today!" then came the pain and I was wondering if I would be able to run.

Guess what happened just a few minutes later. - I hit the same knee with the hammer once again. A really stupid thing to do. Luckily I didn't hit as hard this time.

Anyway, I finished my work and got my running clothes on and went out to see if the knee was working ok. I had a great run, 12.85 km/8 mi, in a beautiful sunny and warm evening and the knee didn't bother me at all. I don't feel anything when walking or running but it is a bit painful when walking up and down stairs and it hurts when I bend it more than 90 degrees or so and it will probably end up in several different colours in the coming days. I'm so pleased that it didn't turn out worse than this, especially since my running now is going really good. I would hate to take a break from my training now.

RtNP#23 Daddy's Getting Old

This was recorded a while ago and I'm sorry it took me so long to get it uploaded. I also apologise for not being very structured in this episode but I hope you'll find it worth listening to.

..you can hear me talk about a special day in my life. A day that turned out to be really great.

Along the canal

Lägg till bildEarlier today I drove my daughter to her cello lesson in town, and instead of waiting in the car while she played I went for a run along the canal and the locks in Trollhättan.

I haven't been running for a while because I haven't been feeling too good after a dentist appointment recently. I had a wisdom tooth taken out and I wish the healing process had been a bit quicker. Anyway, today I gave running a try and I did fine I guess but I have my doubts about setting a new 10k pr on an upcoming race this Tuesday. Legs felt awkward today and my heartrate was a bit higher than usual. Well I'll give it a try on Tuesday and we'll see what happens.

My run today was on tracks and roads where I've never run before and I wonder why because the area is really great and I hope you can see that on the photos.

I had no idea if I would make it back in time for when my daughters lesson ended and got a bit nervous at the last few kms. I thought the time went a bit too fast and I was running on the wrong side of the canal so a shortcut was out of the question. The only thing I could do was to speed up towards the bridge and then turn around and go back a bit on the right side. I arrived a few minutes after the lesson was supposed to end but as it turned out my daughter stayed for another 10 minutes in the music room to listen to the students that played after her so I was the one that had to hang around and wait for a little while. But that was ok and I had the chance to cool down and get my breathing back to normal before we drove back home again. All in all I had a great run and I think the time was well spent. Much better than just sitting in the car waiting during her lesson.

RtNP#22 Back in the forest

It's good to be back home again even if Greece have become some kind of a second home for us and I already miss the warm and beautiful weather. My hope is that the spring and summer soon will come to us here. In the meantime I guess I'll just have to dress a bit warmer and get on with the training that went so well on our vacation.

In this episode I sum up some of my running in Greece and I also talk a bit about the arrival of spring as I try to find my way trough a new part of the forest.

RtNP#21 Running in Greece

I find great pleasure in running in other locations when I'm on vacation. It's a great way to see things that you don't easily see from a car or bus.
In a way the environment comes more alive when experienced on foot, and what could be better than combining two things that I really like, running and sightseeing.
This was recorded in central Greece on a warm but windy day.
I only had a mini PC with a poor soundcard for the editing so I don't really know what it all sounds like. Sorry if the quality isn't the best, but I hope you can sense my excitement and joy for being here and exploring the area. I hope you'll find it worth listening to.

In this episode ..
..you can hear me talk about what I see and hear around here. I also meet a few animals, some scary and some invisible.

Snow

I had to stop this morning on my way to work to take some pictures. I wish I've had a better camera with me but I only had my cellphone. Anyway theese photos might give you an idea of the amount of snow we've had this winter. This snow was taken away from a larger car park area and piled up like this.

We usually don't get this much snow around here and therefor have not really been prepared for this kind of winter. One of the biggest problems have been where to put all snow.

Luckily, the snow has started to melt now and that brings hope that soon it will go away and spring and summer might come even this year.

See a few more photos here.

RtNP#20 Sliding On Ice

This was recorded on a run last weekend when the surface was a bit unreliable. I ran on both tarmac free from snow and on very icey parts. It was sometimes quite dangerous.

Did I fall on the ice? or did my ability to react quick as lightning prevent an accident?

Join me on my run and you'll find out.

In this episode ..
..you can hear me talk about the weather and also about what olympic sport I enjoyed the most.

RtNP#19 Snow

In a real winter, in the north, there is supposed to be snow on the ground. And temperatures cold enough for the snow to stay frozen. But... I've had enough now and I really want spring to arrive.

In this episode ..
..you can hear me talk about snow. I'm also sharing some thoughts about time and priorities.

RtNP#18 New Possibilities

This was recorded on a cold evening run, my first run in the new year. Hopefully coming runs will be in warmer temperatures and in better surface conditions. Well, nothing much we can do about the weather, I guess we just have to press on with our training, right?
I hope you all had a good holiday and wish you a happy new year, 2010.
